How to Get Your Alexa Ranking to Drop like a Rock… to Increase Your Popularity.

Alexa.com just ranked this website to be the
373,861 st most important website in the world… which is
very, very cool… then I got to thinking.

You probably want to know how I did it or what you can do to
increase your website’s popularity index too.

Increasing mine began with having Alex Jeffreys remind me of
the importance of creating a WordPress blog… of value.

Then along came a wonderful friend named Joann Henry, who
was kind enough to share her experience with a great little
add-on program…

Quite simply, once you install this Firefox add-on there will
appear a small little graph, bar and number that tells you your Traffic Trend,
Global Reach and of course your all important Traffic Rank…  in your
browser’s right corner.

The add-on is called Sparky.

http://www.alexa.com/toolbar/

The real cool thing about Sparky is that it actually shows all these
values for every website you visit in real-time…  not just yours.

Here is a list of a few things I’ve done to watch my Alexa ranking
plummet to where you see it now…

1. created interesting blog posts,
2. used curiosity based headlines,
3. tagged my posts,
4. talked about authority sites in my posts,
5. put the WP top commentators list in my sidebar,
6. installed the WP comment luv plugin,
7. used the Yahoo mybloglog sidebar widget,
8. visited other people’s blogs and left comments,
9. replied to people’s comments on my blog,
10. made sure there were external links in all my posts,

I’m not really sure which has impacted my Alexa ranking
dropping more than the other…  but I’m glad it has
had the combined effect I’ve always been looking for.

If you want to see your blog become more popular with the
search engines and to those that surf the web, install Sparky

http://www.alexa.com/toolbar/

Then visit people’s blogs with a lower Alexa ranking than yours, try
to figure out why they’re more appealing… then copy what you think
they’re doing.

Positive results will surely come your way.

If you really want your traffic to increase in
the next 24 hours, this will work… GUARANTEED.

Step 1 – install Sparky
http://www.alexa.com/toolbar/

Step 2 – click on any blog post at any WordPress blog
website then scroll down to where you see people that have
placed comments on any blog posts,

Step 3 – click back through the URL links of at least
10 commentators back to their blog websites,

Step 4 – read any of their most current blog posts and
place a comment either thanking them for:  their
information, how it has positively affected you, or
something else that’s POSITIVE.

Step 5 – its likely that a few will take the time
to visit your blog and leave a comment too.

Step 6 – approve their comments,

Step 7 – look at your new Alexa ranking…  it should be
lower than before.

Have a great day, get Sparky and make sure you
leave a comment here so everyone reading this blog
post can jump over to your blog and leave a comment there too.

In case you didn’t know, every time someone
comments on your blog and you approve their comments…
you get a backlink…

The more backlinks…  the more popular you become.

So start right now…

You’ll be surprised at what happens in the next 24 hours with
your world wide web blog website’s popularity.

Let me know how it goes,

Rob

P.S. A more popular blog means much more traffic and
to get a better Alexa.com ranking this Firefox add-on will
encourage your progress… all along the way.

    Cool idea Rob!
I’ve never heard of that plugin before. I am definitely going to check that out. I think one of the big reasons your ranking is dropping like a rock is the fact that you add valuable content. Keep adding value and people will keep coming back.

Thanks for sharing the ideas. Talk to you soon.

    Matt

PS, I’d love to chat with you on Skype one of these days.

Once again you’ve provided a ton of useful information.

Can I just ask about Tags in blogs.

Do you use Tag the keywords in your blog?

Have you got any tips on the best use of Tags?

Thanks for sharing the techniques you’re using.

  6. Rob Canyon says:

    JT,

Tagging the keywords in my blog… Hmmmmm.. I’m wondering if you mean
hyperlinking the keywords to places outside my blog.

Well if that’s the case my answer is yes and no. Again, this is just me.

I tend to try to link people’s names back to their blogs and many times back to a specific
blog post inside their blog that I think will inspire my readership.

I’ll do this to a maximum of two people even if my blog post mentions more.

You see, Google and the other search engines are really trying hard to mimic real life and
so IMHO they like the fact that you know and have respect for others, but probably
think you’re just “pimping your …….” if you get to link crazy inside one specific post.

Anyways that’s just my take on the matter.

Let me know if that was what you were thinking.

    Cheers,

    Rob

  10. Hey Rob,
Thanks for stopping buy my blog,
congratulations on your great ranking in Alexa,
when you think of the millions of sites outthere
    you are doing VERY well.

Your article proves that when doing certain things
correctly, great success is attainable, I will be
studying your blog, and definitely implementing
    your stradegies.

This course with Alex is the best investment I’ve
made, and he is doing everything the right way.

The friendships, partnerships and great sense of caring
amongst the students will last a long time, I plan on working
with you and the others ,long after this course is finished, maybe it will never finish, wouldn’t that be great ?.

    James,

Thanks. Yeah, ideas… got quite a few…. Sometimes I get them in my blog and sometimes they
fly right out of my mind.

How I write though, I start with what link I want to encourage people to go to in my call to action,
then think of a cool headline and then write the post to link the two together.

    Take care,

    Rob

  12. Rob Canyon says:

    Rich,

The course not finishing is up to me and you… We can do this.

  14. Rob Canyon says:

    Thomas,

I’m sure traffic doesn’t completely follow ranking… Mainly because traffic probably has more to do with writing keywords rich content…

IMHO its very hard to write for the search engines, it’s much easier to write for my friends.

    Maybe I’m wrong…

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for this informative post. I think I have a similar plug in which shows Alexa’s ranking (yours is now down to 365,575) and it also shows which links are nofollow and which are dofollow.

I was surprised to see that even with comment luv plug in which you and most other people have the links are still nofollow. I don’t really know how this works but on my blog the top commentator is getting dofollow links.

Commenting on other peoples blogs is good for many reasons but I like the idea of communicating and building relationships. If you are into plug ins you may know a lot more than I do. Perhaps you could find out about a keyword luv plug in. I don’t know much about it but it’s supposed to be good for interaction and attracting commentators.

I’ll visit your blog again to learn more about you and from you.

Also, I don’t see many people listed in your top commentators sidebar widget. You may want to change the setting to where it says
Commentors ‘Reset List every YEAR’ to start with.

Also, you might like to add the Widlink traffic widget that Alex Jeffreys gave us which shows all the students blogs.
