Is that what your blog really wants…  ‘Darn Tootin’
(I guess that won’t kill my ‘G’ rating)

Blog credibility aka ‘Blog Cred’ is so very important.  Here’s why…

Have you ever landed on a blog and there’s not much
content, few comments and virtually no indication that anyone
cares about who the author really is. (social proof)

Well to be frank…   That’s how all blogs get started… even mine.

So what’s a person to do…

Starting up a blog is a lot like starting up a business.  The main thing
you need is TRAFFIC.

Now, imagine if there was a way to get people lining up to visit
your blog, just to leave you their positive comments… even if you didn’t
have a blog in the first place.

Well you can…

The way you do this is by helping others for
free… Let me explain.

In the real world, everything you do for others is called
a transaction… some people pay you a little, while others pay you
a lot and yes, some don’t get the urge to pay you at all.

Some do, some don’t, so what, who cares.

For those that do get the urge, you’ll probably hear them say or
maybe even see them write  comments indicating
how appreciative they are of your help.

This is a very good thing.

Instead of just thanking them in return for their kind words, why not
ask them to place a comment on your blog.

If they’re sincere, they’ll probably do it.

Now, I know this sounds like turning your blog into a
receptacle for kind comments relating to value you provided and
delivered elsewhere…

That’s absolutely right…

Look at what Alex Jeffreys and Dean Holland
have been doing and many others too.

Before I go, let me just say this.  The number one
way to show future visitors that you are a helpful person and
also prove to them others think the same way, is to aggregate
your comments on your blog front page.

You can do this by using the ‘Top Commentators’
plugin by Lorna Timbah (link below).

BTW it was Matt Wolfe who turned me on to it.  Thanks Matt.

Have a look at all those pictures in my sidebar.

Doesn’t that give you a feeling that there’s a whole bunch of
visitors to my blog that love what it is I say, do or have
helped them get results with on or off my blog.

Another reason you want to install this plugin is because
it will keep you focused on the real reason for
writing your blog posts in the first place…

providing valuable, actionable and results bearing content for others.

WebGrrrl.net … you’re the best.

Rob

P.S. The best comments to leave on other peoples blogs are ones
with your pictures attached… here’s the blog post I wrote on how
to do that.

P.P.S.  and this is where to get the ‘top commentators’ plugin

click here –> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/top-commentators-widget/

P.P.P.S. If you want to see picture of the comment authors alongside
each comment in your Wordpress blog site… here is what to do.

Log into your Wordpress blog (wp-admin), go to ‘Settings’, then click on
‘Discussion’, then scroll down the middle of the page until you see ‘Avatars’…
once you click on ’show avatars’… you’re good to go.

  6. Rob,

This is such a great post, what I read between the lines is putting people first. Basically, that\’s what helping people by providing good information on your blog is all about it. And like you said, doing it all for free.

And I wanted to take a minute, just to say thank you for all of your help with \"redesigning\" my blog and of course, all of your help in the forums.

    You\’re the best,
    Karen

  10. Thanks for the tip Rob, don’t know why but I hadn’t thought of it like that & had it to reset every month. I’ve changed it to never reset now, is that what you’ve got it set to? Also how many names do you limit it to show, I’ve got mine set to 60 at the moment.

    Cheers!

    Paul.

  11. Paul,

I’ve left mine to reset yearly, no limit on numbers to show and I’ve excluded my name so that I don’t end up in my list…

May have to make some adjustments however… list is getting pretty long.

Talk soon and great having you stop by.

    Cheers,

    Rob

  12. Hey Rob
thanks so much for the help, not just with the commentator widget info but with the Gravatar. I will be sure to get them installed
    Glenn

  13. Glenn,

Your welcome. Come back and place a comment when you’ve got your gravatar working so I can update your comment history.

    Cheers,

    Rob

  14. Thanks for sharing your settings, Rob.

One thing I’ll just mention, I think you’d be better off getting rid of the captcha thing. I know it doesn’t seem to be affecting your comments as you have loads, but I just think it would be a better experience without it.

Maybe a spam filter would be better, I use askimet & it works pretty well for me.

    Reagards,
    Paul.

  15. Paul,

Thanks for dropping by. Yep, you’re probably right. The captcha is probably overkill as I’m already running
askimet. So I deactivated it. Thanks.

Any ideas on what else I can do to improve the visitor experience would be appreciated.

    Also traffic ideas always appreciated.

    Talk soon,

    Rob
